Another weekend of ULMA racing is now in the record books as Steve Clancy of Odessa, Missouri picked up one win and a third-place finish in his Rayburn late model to tighten up the overall Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce ULMA standings. Clancy again left the rest of the field scratching their heads at Central Missouri Speedway wondering how to beat him as he picked up his fifth win in a row and sixth total win at the track this season. He backed up the win with a strong third-place run at the second and final ULMA appearance of the year at Double X Speedway in California, Missouri the next night. By virtue of his solid finishes, Clancy closed in on co-point leaders Jake Griffin and Jason Bodenhamer and third-place driver Tommy Cordray.

At Central Missouri Speedway, the Clancy Brothers, Steve and Chad, “led the field in the 20-lap feature when Steve went to his successful low line early on in the event with Chad and Jason Bodenhamer trying to figure out a grove to work around him. Bodenhamer took the second spot as Brett Wood moved up from seventh. Wood got sideways in turn three on two wheels and ended up almost flipping but somehow saved it and continued on. Lane Ehlert and Alan Westling departed the track with mechanical issues and called it a night as they headed back to their trailers. Meanwhile, Steve Clancy stayed glued to his favorite low groove with Kevin Coyne making some noise climbing into the top-three to challenge Bodenhamer for second. Steve Clancy never looked back the rest of the way and crossed the finish line to claim his fifth feature win in a row. Bodenhamer hung on for second with Coyne third, Wood fourth, and Bob Test fifth, in one of his best CMS runs of the year in his GRT machine.” Chad Clancy, Trace Westling, James Stafford and Jimmy Jobe also ran inside the top ten in the main event. There were 14 cars on hand with 12 ULMA-member drivers. CMS will once again delay its start times this Saturday, August 6th with pit gates opening at 5:30, hot laps at 8 and racing shortly after. Check out CMS online at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

At Double X Speedway last Sunday, ten cars checked in with seven members on hand. Steve Clancy and Kevin Coyne battled hard for the win in one of the two heat races contested as Clancy ran in the middle to high side with Coyne getting hooked up down low to take the heat win. Nonmember Brandon Imhoff, who claimed the other ULMA appearance feature win at the track this year, won the other heat race and led the feature from the pole position. On what turned out to be a very difficult track to pass on and everyone fighting for the bottom side, Imhoff was able to hold off the rest of the field to take the win in the 20-lap event. After several problems at the start, drivers finally settled in to a race rhythm to complete the race. Bob Test ran a fine race to claim second, his best this season while Clancy settled for third. Trace Westling finished fourth with Chris Cox not far behind in fifth. James Stafford, Dave Mosley and Coyne, who experienced a front-end mechanical failure, also claimed spots inside the top ten. ULMA wishes to thank Kyle and Carol Wirts for hosting ULMA races twice this season, we look forward to returning again in 2012!

Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri did not contest ULMA late model races last week due to a special event. The track will give its staff the weekend off this weekend and the next ULMA-sanctioned race at the speedway will actually take place on Saturday, August 20th. Visit www.lucasoilspeedway.com for future race events and track information. Scotland County Speedway was also off last weekend but is scheduled to host another race this Saturday, August 6th. Scotland County Speedway is located in Memphis, Missouri and may be found on the web at www.scotlandcountyspeedway.com. Scheduled races were canceled last weekend at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri but as of press time, the track was scheduled to open its gates again this Friday, August 5th for another night of action, visit www.callawayraceways.com for complete details.

Jake Griffin and Jason Bodenhamer are tied at the top of the standings with Griffin the actual leader due to more wins posted this season. Tommy Cordray remains in the mix in third as Clancy moves up another rung to fourth. Brett Wood and Kevin Coyne are still looming with Robby Warner, Jon Binning, Bob Test, and Trace Westling also inside the top ten. The ULMA point’s earning season runs through October with the last two races taking place on Saturday, October 1st at CMS and Sunday, October 2nd at 24 Raceway in Moberly. Drivers keep their 15 best overall finishes of the season to earn points towards the championship.
