Moyer’s run to the checkers wasn’t without controversy. Moyer tracked down early leader Randy Korte of Highland, Ill., at the midpoint of the main event but contact on the backstretch left Korte’s car unable to continue. Moyer cruised the rest of the distance to earn his first win on the 2012 tour. Polesitter Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., finished second behind Moyer and unofficially take the Hell Tour point lead away from defending Summer Nationals Shannon Babb who finished eighth. Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, Iowa, started on the outside of row four and rallied to the line to grab the third spot. Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., finished fourth after garnering the quickest lap in time trials earlier in the night. Dennis Erb Jr., of Carpentersville, Ill., rounded out the top five.
