Macon Speedway(Macon, IL) Race fans will be treated to a special night at Macon Speedway on Saturday, July 14th as Kid’s Castle presents a full UMP card of racing and the Chevrolet hall of fame driver reunion. Macon Speedway is one of the Midwest’s premier dirt racing facilities and is one of Illinois’ oldest racetracks which opened its doors on April 7th, 1946. Macon Speedway was built and originally operated by Wayne Webb.  Opening night featured midget racing through the mid 50’s, then the track went on to feature Super Modifieds which ran into the late 60’s.  Next, the Super Stock division which later changed their name to Late Models joined the line up along with Modified, Sportsman, and Street Stock divisions.  Macon Speedway is in its 67th year in operation in 2012, one of the oldest businesses in Macon County.

With 16 events in the book so far this year, the action on the well prepared, 1/5 mile high bank oval has been fast and furious all season. The point leaders this week in their divisions are: UMP Super Late Models – Greg Kimmons (Pleasant Plains), Billingsley Towing Modifieds – Guy Taylor (Decatur), UMP Sportsman – Rick Roedel (Shelbyville), UMP Street Stocks – Larry Russell Jr., UMP Pro Hornet – Jeremy Reed (Decatur), Amateur Hornet – Zach Perryman (Decatur).Pit gates open at 4pm; Grandstands open at 5pm with the racing action starting at 7pm. Tickets go on sale at the gate at 5pm. Adults are $12 with kids 11 & under free.

Set the calendar for Saturday July 21s   it’s Christmas in July presented by Miles Chevrolet with a Christmas for kids toy drive for needy kids. Then on Saturday July 28th it’s the annual invasion of the MOWA Sprint cars along with the UMP Super Late Models in a rare doubleheader of racing action.
