Springfield RacewaySpringfield, Mo.-  Another of the Classic side by side Late Model events are set for Saturday July 28th at the “Quick- Quarter” of the Springfield Raceway as the MLRA and MARS Super Late Models prepare to show fans just how it is done in the running of the 1st Annual Casey’s General Stores Summer Meltdown.

This will be the 3rd of 4 co-sanctioned events between the 2 Midwest Regional Late Models Series at Jerry Hoffman and Doug Bland’s racy high-banked Quarter-mile dirt oval.

It has been May since the Late Models have visited Springfield Raceway when MLRA Point leader John Anderson had a mirror full of MARS point leader Jesse Stovall and Cornbelt Clash Kingpin Chad Simpson for the 40 lap feature. This will be the 4th Late Model event this season at the track. Jack Sullivan took the weather make-up dated Turkey Classic in early March, while 2011 MARS Champion Brad Looney took home the top prize in the Co-Sanctioned March Madness Event in late March over Will Vaught, Tony Jackson, Jr. and a fast moving Jesse Stovall. The 2 series went back for bragging rights in May for the john Kuntz Memorial in which Anderson claimed a hard earned victory.

With the 2 Series hitting the home stretch in their championship chases, another quality field of Late Models are expected. Currently Jesse Stovall heads the MARS point standings over Tony Jackson Jr. and a fast moving Justin Asplin. Defending MLRA champion John Anderson is at the top of the MLRA points while Stovall holds third place. Other top area drivers such as former Turkey Classic winners Justin Wells of Aurora, Ken Essary of Cape Fair, Leading rookie contenders for both series Brandon Morton of Oklahoma for the MARS Series and Iowa’s Kevin Sather for the MLRA Series. Iowa top shoe Chad Simpson, David Turner of Creighton, Bryon Allison of  Marshall, Brandon McCormick of Lebanon, Leroy Johnson of Springfield, Patrick Johnson of Springfield and many others are expected. Series officials expect a very strong field of cars as the MLRA  has a Series race on Friday night at Humboldt, Kansas.

Action will also feature the Transport Graphics Championship Chase events in USRA Modifieds, USRA B Modifieds, Legends, Midwest Modz, Pure Stocks, Street Stocks and Young Lions Legends as they run a Missouri National Qualifying Feature.

Grandstand gates open at 5:30 with Adult admission only $20 while kids prices are 6-12 $5 and under 6 free. Hot laps start at 6:30 with action to begin at 7:30.

Pit gates will open at 4PM while local drivers meeting will be at 6:15. USRA Modifieds will open draw and the top 8 in passing points redraw while all other classes run normal Springfield procedures. Pit passes will be $35.
