Lucas Oil Late Model SeriesBatesville, Arkansas (08/21/12) – Jared Landers powered his #5 Clint Bowyer Motorsports/Barry Wright/Roush Yates Racing Engine Super Late Model to a second place finish over the weekend in the 20th Annual COMP Cams Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas).

It’s no secret that the 2012 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) campaign has largely been a nightmare for Jared Landers. He’s had random mechanical failures and overall bad luck, but he was able to get things pointed in the right direction over the weekend in the 20th Annual COMP Cams Topless 100. Forty-four Super Late Models converged on the 3/8 mile for the $40,000-to-win event. Landers started his weekend on Friday evening by registering the second fastest time in his group, and with an inversion of two spun for the feature he earned the second starting spot for the second heat race. He would chase Tyler Reddick for the lead until late in the twelve lapper, when Reddick had a vicious wreck, which eliminated the leader. Landers went on to lead the closing laps to claim the win as well as the third starting spot for the 100 lap finale.

On Saturday night the finale for the crown jewel was held in front of a huge crowd and the SPEED TV cameras. As the race went green Landers would quickly find his way into the second spot behind race leader, Steve Francis. During the course of the main event he would battle throughout the top five, and despite ignition problems he would go on to race his way to a second place finish behind race winner, Steve Francis. It was a great weekend for the team and a much-needed good run.

“This year has been really tough on us, but my team has not given up. This finish and the money ($20,000) is a major shot in the arm for us. Hopefully we can build on the momentum,” noted Landers.

Landers will take part in a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) events this week with action beginning on Thursday night, August 23rd at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee) with the 9th Annual Scorcher. From there the tour rolls into Lawrenceburg Speedway (Lawrenceburg, Tennessee) for another $10,000-to-win event on Saturday, August 25th.
