USRAKANSAS CITY, Kan. (April 19) – Veteran racer Gene Claxton used last Sunday’s season opener and his 40-plus years of racing experience to show the way from start to finish Friday night as the Iron Man Challenge for USRA B-Mods invaded the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.

Claxton, who has 11 track championships at Lakeside dating back to 1980, started on the outside of the front row and led every lap despite pressure throughout the 20-lapper from 2009 Grand National track champion, Chad Clancy.

While Claxton collected $500 for his efforts, Clancy settled for the runner-up paycheck with Minnesota’s Jacob Bleess third. Seventeenth-starting Troy Carlyle finished fourth and fifteenth-starting Jake Richards rounded out the top five.

With a sixth-place finish, Corey Crapser took over the Iron Man Challenge points lead with Richards climbing to second.

The next Iron Man Challenge event for the USRA B-Mods happens Friday, May 3, at the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis. USRA Stock Cars will make their 2013 Iron Man Challenge debut with the USRA B-Mods on Saturday, May 25, at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn. Both events will share the spotlight with the USMTS Modifieds.
