EAST MOLINE, IL – July 28, 2013 – No points battle has been any closer at the Quad City Speedway in 2013 then in the Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Models. Going into Sunday night’s racing action only five points separated the top 3 with Silvis’ Todd Malmstrom leading Nate Beuseling by one point and Mike Zemo Jr. by five points.

With season beginning to wind down, every win as become more and more important and Malmstrom is coming on strong at the right time in hopes of collecting his first career track championship. For the third week in a row Malmstrom found himself in the winner’s circle. After battling his way from ninth starting position, Malmstrom duked it out with Eric Gustaf for several laps eventually taking control of the lead. Zemo, running his usual high side around the track, gave Malmstrom everything he could handle running side by side with him for several laps. After a lap 19 caution though Malmstrom built a strong lead and completed the 3-peat. Zemo would take second followed by Rob Toland, Gustaf, and Beuseling. Heat race winners were Toland and Zemo.

The Weber Auto Group Street Stocks put on a stellar race Sunday with the leaders, Chris Lawrence and Jarett Franzen, running side by side for the majority of the race. The only yellow flag on lap 11 bunched up the field for a four lap dash to the finish. Jerry Pratt put on a strong performance running the high side of the track and on the final lap made it three wide for the lead with Lawrence and Franzen. Lawrence would grab the checkered with Franzen second followed by Pratt, Rob Nylin, and Steven Jackson. Heat winners were Lawrence and Chad Coyne.

A strong field of U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modifieds put on a great showing in their 20 lap feature. Once again it came down to Greg Durbin and Doug Crampton with five laps to go. Durbin was hugging the tires on the bottom with Crampton running up against the wall. Durbin would again prevail winning his second feature in as many weeks. Crampton finished second followed by Matt Werner, Jason Bahrs, who started 12th, and Brian Bushong. Heat winners were Joe Jones Jr. and Todd Dykema.

Eureka’s Brock Bauman waited until the white flag lap on a green-white-checkered finish in the Toppert Services UMP Modifieds to take the lead and go on to collect his second win of the year at the Quad City Speedway. Brandon Durbin finished a very strong second, after running the entire race in the top 3, followed by Donovan Lodge, Ray Bollinger, and Justin Veloz, who started 11th. Quick time in the Mr. Fix It time trial went to Lodge with a 14.30. Heat winners were Milo Veloz Jr. and Durbin.

Aaron Hitt returned to victory lane Sunday in the 4-Cylinders. Hitt used the first five laps to make his way to the front and take command of the lead. Hitt would cruise onto win with Zach Dahl taking second followed by Brandon Dahl, who started ninth, Eric Stogdell, and Josh Sharpe, who started 11th. Heat winners were Jon Scott and Dustin Forbes.

Racing continues next Sunday with the Bully Dog 8th Annual Ronnie Weedon Memorial presented by J&J Camper Sales featuring the U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modifieds 30 lap feature. Special thanks to Meier Construction, Doo Dah Dave’s, Garden City Tattoo, and Bert Autoplex for also sponsoring this race. Also racing next Sunday will be the Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Models, Weber Auto Group Street Stocks, 4-Cylinders, McDonald’s Mod Lites, and the IMRA Midget Lites. Normal admission prices and times apply.
