(Moberly, Mo) – The victories for the twenty-third and twenty-fourth races this season for Lucas Cattle Company ULMA competitors were claimed by the same driver on one night as Jason Russell, of Henley, Missouri fended off all competitors for his double-win weekend. Due to a previously rained out event at Lucas Oil Speedway on July 20, double features were held at the speedway to make-up for the rained out event.

Russell claimed his first win on Saturday with a rare late day win as the track’s schedule was adjusted for the additional makeup feature races plus their regular weekly program in all classes. With daylight still shining down on the track, Russell quickly moved towards the front of the field from his fourth-starting position. Leading Rookie of the Year candidate, Payton Looney, of Republic, Missouri, and former track champion Jeremy Kelley, of Walnut Grove, Missouri also raced near the front.

When the checkered flag waved over the field in the first feature event of the night, Russell had secured his tenth win of the season with Looney second, followed by Kelley in third, seventh-starting Josh Hughes of West Plains, Missouri in fourth, and pole-sitter, Jon Binning of Warrensburg, Missouri, rounding out the top five. Chris Cox, Ethan young, R.D. Peterson, Larry Jones, and Todd McCoin completed the top ten.

Once the classes settled the score in the makeup races, an all-new program rolled out for the night. Twenty-seven drivers signed in for competition in three heat races and a b-main prior to the night concluding for the regularly scheduled program.

The hotly contested preliminary heat races went to Payton Looney over Tommy Cordray and Jason Bodenhamer in heat one, Josh Hughes drove to victory in heat two over Vance Wilson and Jeremy Kelley, while Jason Russell took the win in heat three over Earl Roark and Bobby Penney. Eight additional drivers transferred to the main event from the b-main to join the 16 locked-in cars from the heat races as R.D. Peterson claimed the win over Ethan Young and Zeke Langley.

Russell and Wilson, both former Lucas Cattle Company ULMA champions and once again in the mix for the title this year, started the main event on the front row. As witnessed many times this season, it did not take long for drivers to begin racing three and sometimes four-wide as they fought hard for every valued position. At one point, the entire top three in the ULMA championship hunt were three wide going for the win!

Although Wilson and Looney, along with Hughes, fought hard going for the win, Jason Russell proved unstoppable on this night by claiming his second main event of the night, twenty-second of his ULMA career, and eleventh victory of this season. His eleven wins this year tie his win total from last season and places him one win away from establishing the record for claiming the most trips to victory lane in a single season (12).

Behind Russell at the finish was Vance Wilson, who recorded his fourteenth-consecutive top-five finish in second. Looney finished a strong third with Josh Hughes claiming fourth, one spot ahead of former track champion, Tommy Cordray of Browning, Missouri. Closing out the top ten were, Bodenhamer, Kelley, Binning, J.D. Hubert, and another rookie sensation, Bobby Penney, of Lawson, Missouri.
