Sunday night thunder took center stage one more time at Double-X Speedway for ‘Sonic Night 2013’. The overcast skies made for a tacky, fast track that drivers took advantage of in every class. The Winged Sprint Cars took center stage with an exciting feature event for 25 laps around the venerable speedway. After a missed opportunity on the first attempt at starting the feature, outside front row starter Josh Fisher suffered mechanical problems which moved Adam Jones to the outside of row one beside pole sitter Bryan Grimes. Jones used the top of the track to his advantage by taking the lead into turn one and never looked back. Had he looked back he would have seen Cody Baker charging into the second position and gain on the leader as the field encountered lapped traffic and Baker put himself in position to make a last lap pass on the leader but came up short as Jones claimed the victory. Baker crossed the line in second with Corey Nelson running a very smooth race to claim third. Tyler Blank would take home fourth position and Grimes would finish fifth. Lanny Carpenter was sixth, Casey Baker claimed seventh, PJ Grimes came home eighth, David “Farmer” Brown returned to the driver’s seat to finish ninth, TJ Muths was tenth and Fisher rounded out the feature event starters. Curtis Boyer was unable to start the feature event after tumbling down the back stretch in his heat race after contact with another car. Qualifying heats were claimed by Grimes and Fisher.

The Hobby Stock division had three of the fastest cars in the class starting at the head of the field. Seth Jacobs and Will Register led the field to the green with third starting Gage Wineland hot on their rear bumpers. As long time announcer Dave Van Patten used to say “There’s not enough mustard to cover these hot dogs!” the trio opened up daylight between themselves and the rest of the field. Jacobs would lead the opening lap with Register moving to the point on lap two with Wineland in the second position. On lap six Wineland would take over the lead and claim the victory with Register ringing up second, Jacobs third, Chuck Coffey claims fourth and AJ Wirts crossed the line in fifth. Mike Schrader was sixth, Larry Dickinson finished seventh, Jeremiah Wallingford was eighth, Jacob Harty was ninth and Laura Atkinson rounded out the top ten. Heat races were claimed by Jacobs and Register.

The 600cc Micro Sprint field was led to the green by heat race winners Scott and Dean Hathmann. At the outset Dean Hathmann showed his muscle and rapidly opened up a straightaway lead over the field. Sixth starting Jordan Howell finished a strong second, Scott Hathmann was third, Brian Lunsford claimed fourth and Cole Campbell claimed fifth. Garet Williamson crossed the line sixth followed by Ben Brown in seventh, Arron Smith in eighth, Tom Sydnor in ninth and Lexi Neeley in tenth.

Dale Berry took the lead on the opening lap of the Street Stock feature event and held off the field to claim the victory. John Clancy, Jr. drove to second from the fifth starting spot, Derek Henson claimed third with Keeth Strange fourth and James Keeran finished fifth. Jim Kimbell and Johnnie Strange completed the field. Berry claimed the sole heat race in the division.

Next Saturday night will complete the 2013 season at Double-X with the annual championship event. Be sure to follow us on Facebook or at www.xxspeedway.com. Call 5763-796-4694 for information.
