Dirt Track World Championship - DTWC(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) Jeep Van Wormer and the Iron Motorsports team wrapped up their 2013 campaign on October 18-19 in the 33rd Annual ‘Dirt Track World Championship’ at the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series once again presided over the $50,000 to win crown jewel event, which drew a strong 79 car field to the southern Ohio speedplant. On Friday night, Jeep laid down the second quickest lap in Group A during the qualifying session and later placed second in his loaded heat race behind only prelim victor Steve Shaver.

When business really picked up on Saturday evening at PRP, Jeep started the 100-lap ‘Dirt Track World Championship’ from the inside of the fifth row. The Pinconning, Michigan ace was racing hard inside of the top ten early in the extra-distance affair before a broken shock caused him to retire from the race. Jeep was relegated to a disappointing twenty-fifth place performance in the season-ending DTWC. Full results from Portsmouth can be viewed online at www.lucasdirt.com.

The #55 Iron Motorsports team entered twenty (20) events during the course of their 2013 racing season. Jeep reached victory lane on three (3) different occasions, while also racking up eight (8) Top Fives and eleven (11) Top Tens. His wins came in an ALMS show ($2,500) at Winston (MI) Speedway on April 27, a World of Outlaws Late Model Series event ($10,000) at Winston (MI) Speedway on August 16, and a ‘World 100’ preliminary race ($5,000) at Eldora (OH) Speedway on September 5. “We had a good season and if not for some mechanical issues here and there, we could have had a really great year,” stated Van Wormer via telephone this week. “I wish we could have finished at Portsmouth over the weekend because I was battling right there with Jason (Feger) and Jimmy (Owens) early in the race and they wound up in the top five. It would have been awesome to end the year on a high note with a run like that, but I am proud of our team and what we accomplished in a limited schedule. I have to thank my family, my crew, my fans, and all of my sponsors for their support and we will get our stuff ready for 2014!”
