World of Outlaws Late Model SeriesSHINNSTON, W.Va. (November 13, 2013) – Josh Richards closed his 2013 World of Outlaws Late Model Series championship campaign with one last flourish: a victory in Saturday night’s season-ending 50-lap World Finals A-Main at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C.

After clinching his third World of Outlaws points title on Friday night with a third-place finish in the first half of the World Finals twin bill, Richards took advantage of a pole position starting spot to lead Saturday evening’s headliner from flag to flag. The triumph gave him a career-best 10-win WoO LMS season and a resounding final championship margin of 150 points.

“It feels awesome,” Richards said during his post-race celebration in front of Charlotte’s packed grandstand. “It’s definitely icing on the cake (to win the A-Main). We came to the World Finals to win the championship and a race and we accomplished both.”

Richards, 25, of Shinnston, W.Va., became the first driver to win three WoO LMS championships since the national tour was restarted in 2004 under the World Racing Group banner. His latest success came in his return to the World of Outlaws trail after spending 2012 focused on NASCAR Nationwide Series competition.

“This one is definitely special,” said Richards, who previously won the championship in 2009 and 2010. “To take a break (from WoO LMS traveling) like we did (in 2012) to pursue other opportunities and come back and win it this year is pretty unreal. I’m just proud to represent the World of Outlaws this year and hopefully we can do it again.”

Richards received his $100,000 championship prize during the annual WoO LMS awards banquet on Sunday night at the Great Wolf Lodge in Concord, N.C.

Richards’s sterling 2013 WoO LMS performance record showed 10 wins, 32 top-five and 41 top-10 finishes in 46 A-Mains. He also led the tour in fast-time awards (seven), heat wins (24) and earnings $342,970.

Overall in 2013, Richards made 66 starts, winning 16 times and registering 46 top-five and 57 top-10 finishes.
