Wheatland, MO (June 10, 2014) – This weekend will begin the heart of the 2014 schedule for the Lucas Oil MLRA. With temperatures rising outside, the next six weekends will be chock-full of Lucas Oil MLRA competition. Whoever survives and thrives over this stretch of the schedule is likely to be sitting well in the standings with a realistic shot at the season championship. Twelve races comprise this next stretch and it all gets started with inaugural visits to a pair of Southern Iowa tracks promoted by Mike Van Gendren and a return visit Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Missouri, this weekend.
Thursday the stars of the series will visit Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa. A track best known for Sprint Car racing, the long straightaways and sweeping turns will provide a chance to see the speed and power of Super Late Models. Friday the show shifts south and east to Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa. Both shows will offer a possible $5,000 to win for those drivers who took part in the Gamblers Challenge announced several weeks ago.
Saturday is a return to Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Missouri. The series last visited the high banked facility on June 24th, 2010. In an entertaining feature, three time series champion John Anderson darted underneath the checkers ahead of Dave Eckrich, just as his engine was in the process of expiring. New ownership took over the facility last year and the Lucas Oil MLRA is excited to showcase itself to the new owners, fans and valued partners in Central Missouri.
Chad Simpson leads the series standings and is expected to be at all three stops this weekend as he chases the 2014 crown. Travis Dickes and Terry Phillips are second and third respectively, very much within striking distance of Simpson. Jeremy Payne and John Anderson complete the balance of the top five in the standings to this point.
