Lucas Oil Late Model Series(BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS) Billy Moyer and his famed #21 team ventured to the Hawkeye State from September 25-27 for the 11th Annual ‘Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals’ at the hallowed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. The three-day crown jewel spectacular kicked off with a pair of $7,000 to win preliminary programs at the 1/2-mile Marion County fairgrounds speedplant. After experiencing terminal motor problems in Thursday’s qualifying session, Billy scratched from the remainder of the night’s event. Things went much smoother for the BMR team on Friday evening, as Billy ran second in his heat race prior to picking off eight competitors during the 25-lap preliminary feature en route to a stellar runner-up performance behind only winner Brian Birkhofer.

By virtue of his strong point total from Friday, Billy locked himself into the outside of the sixth row in Saturday’s ‘Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals,’ which once again boasted a hefty $40,000 top prize. The Batesville, Arkansas superstar had his sights set on a second race title, but pitted several times early in the 100-lapper. Billy wound up retiring with problems and was placed twenty-eighth in the final rundown. Complete results from the extended weekend at Knoxville can be obtained by clicking on www.lucasdirt.com.

The Billy Moyer Racing (BMR) team is now set for a rare weekend off from racing action. Next up on the schedule will be the annual running of the ‘Magnolia State Cotton Pickin 100’ on October 10-11 at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi. Qualifying and heat races for the unsanctioned mega-event will take place next Friday night, while consolation events and the 100-lap feature are slated for Saturday evening. A $20,000 winner’s check has been established for the two-day showdown, while each starter in the main event will receive at least $1,200. Billy is a three-time winner of the ‘Cotton Pickin 100′ and finished a strong runner-up in his last race start back in 2012.
