Salt Rock, West Virginia (02/09/15) – Eddie Carrier Jr. enjoyed a strong start to his 2015 campaign on Thursday night with a $7,000 triumph in the opening round of the Georgia Boot Super Bowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway Park (Brunswick, Georgia) in the Grover Motorsports #28 Optima Batteries/Rocket/Grover Racing Engine Super Late Model.

On Thursday evening the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) event drew a field of thirty-three entries, and via time trials Carrier Jr. locked into the pole position for his heat race. He went on to win his heat race, earning him the third starting spot for the 30 lap feature. Carrier Jr. would lead the opening lap before Brandon Sheppard took control on the second circuit, shuffling Carrier Jr. back to third.

Eddie continued to battle at the front of the pack throughout the duration of the event and looked to be on his way to a solid runner-up performance. However, Sheppard’s misfortune struck on the last lap as the right front of his nosepiece dug into the track causing him to nearly lose control of his car. As he entered turn three, Sheppard’s car rode the cushion as Carrier Jr. slipped by underneath of him to take the win. Stormy Scott, Sheppard, Steve Francis and Scott Bloomquist rounded out the top five finishers.

“We worked all winter on our race program. Our last race of 2014 was the Dirt Track World Championship at Portsmouth. To come down here and win the first night out, it’s just a tremendous honor to race against these guys; they are the best in the business!” said Carrier Jr.

On Friday night a $10,000-to-win event was held, which served as the first official point event of 2015 for LOLMDS. Unfortunately luck would not be on Eddie’s side as mechanical issued plagued the team early in the night, forcing them to a backup car. He used a provisional and was only able to manage an 18th place finish. On Saturday night in another $10,000-to-win affair his luck would be a little better as he raced to an eleventh place finish at the checkered flag.

While the opener of the 39th Annual Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park (Gibsonton, Florida) fell victim to rain on Monday, the team will return to action on February 10th-14th with five big events. For more information, please visit www.LucasDirt.com .
