Bloomquist dominates DIRTcar Late Models, Hearn grabs Super DIRTcar victory

BARBERVILLE, Fla. – Feb. 18, 2015 – Scott Bloomquist and Brett Hearn, two legendary dirt racers with more than 1,400 combined victories in their careers, each added to their win totals on Wednesday night at Volusia Speedway Park’s DIRTcar Nationals.

Bloomquist dominated the DIRTcar Late Model 40-lap main event, hitting his marks lap after lap in the caution-free main event, then holding off Dale McDowell down the stretch to pocket $10,000. It marked the 10th DIRTcar Nationals victory of Bloomquist’s career.

“I love this racetrack,” said Bloomquist, of Mooresburg, Tenn. “It’s so demanding and has so much character. There’s nothing like it really anywhere. It’s definitely one of my top three racetracks I love coming to. Sometimes a good car drives itself, but you got to work at this place. I love racetracks that are a challenge.”

Hearn started seventh in the feature after finishing behind Billy Pauch in his heat race. Jamie Mills led the first 20 laps of the main event before Anthony Perrego charged past and started pulling away. Hearn went to the bottom of the half-mile dirt oval and on lap 26 darted to the front and drove away to victory, the 22nd win of his career in the Sunshine State.

“You never know how these races are going to play out, I mean the track was slick right from the get go,” said Hearn, of Sussex, N.J. “Why one car gets better as the race goes on and one car slips away, sometimes you just don’t know. If you could do that all the time you’d never lose. Tonight we had a car that stayed underneath me and got better as the race went on, while other guys seemed like they backed up a little bit. The track was just unbelievably good. I mean you could drive anywhere on the track you wanted to, it was a driver’s track. And here we are. I can’t say enough about this place, it’s a blast to be here.”

Nightly doubleheaders at Volusia run through Saturday. On Thursday, World of Outlaws Late Models join the Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds for the final three nights of the DIRTcar Nationals.

Fans planning to attend Thursday’s event have the option of purchasing a pit pass for $1 more than General Admission and parking their vehicle in the infield. The offer is valid only between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Grandstands open at 5 p.m., hot laps at 6 p.m. and opening ceremonies are at 7:20 p.m.
