2011 IMCA Super NationalsBOONE, Iowa (Sept. 5) – Passing skills were at a premium in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod qualifying feature Monday at Boone Speedway.

Seven of the top 10 finishers came from the back half of the 20-car field on opening night of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Cenex. Scott Davis advanced 11 positions for the victory and will start his division record seventh main event on Saturday.

Cayden Carter started dead last but chased Davis across the stripe.

Also moving on to Saturday’s main event will be Geoff Olson (plus 11 start to finish on the night), Tara Longnecker, Clay Evans, David Schlicht (plus 12), Nathan Chodur (plus nine), Taimon Wehr, Troy Jerovetz and defending champion Brett Meyer.

Chodur, Meyer and Olson are all five-time qualifiers. Jerovetz is in the main event for the third time, Evans, Longnecker, Wehr, Schlicht and Carter each for the first.

Longnecker is also the first female driver to qualify for the SportMod main. No woman has ever won a Super Nationals championship: The highest finish was by Jennifer Eriksen, the Sprint Car runner-up in 2007.

Davis is now a 14-time Super Nationals main event qualifier, with six Stock Car and one Modified event under his belt as well. He won the Stock Car crown at Boone in 1998.
