Carries LOLMDS Point’s Lead into Three-Race Weekend

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (04/11/23) – Claiming his sixth win of the year, Ricky Thornton Jr. wired the Castrol FloRacing Night in America field on Wednesday night at Brownstown Speedway to secure the $23,023 victory aboard his SSI Motorsports / Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Dyno One Inc. / Excel Floor Covering / Sub-Surface of Indiana/ Longhorn Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The Arizona native gave credit to crew chief Anthony Burroughs and Longhorn Chassis consultant Kevin Rumley for their hard work in getting the program to where it is today.

“Luckily, (Anthony) Burroughs works his tail off, him and (Kevin) Rumley, they really turned our program around here toward the end of last year,” Thornton said in Victory Lane at Brownstown Speedway. “I felt like if I could’ve still went a little bit harder there at the end. I slowed myself down and tried to give myself a two- or three-car-length gap, that way if I had to race, I had the room to at least improve my pace. So it worked out for us. I gotta thank (Mike) Marlar for running us clean — I knew he would.”

Ricky Thornton Jr. invaded Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Tuesday afternoon to kick off an action-packed week of racing with the Castrol FloRacing Night in America tour opener at the famed ½-mile oval.

Drawing 54 Late Models, Thornton posted the fourth-fastest qualifying lap in his group before placing second in his heat race. Locked into the seventh-starting position for the $23,023-to-win A-Main, Ricky gained one spot in the 50-lap affair to finish sixth.

With the field elevated to 56 cars on Wednesday at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway, Ricky qualified fourth-fastest in his time group before outrunning Bobby Pierce in his heat race to pick up the win.

Dominating from the second the green flag dropped in the feature, Thornton led flag-to-flag in the 50-lapper to claim his sixth win of the season and a $23,023 payday. He was followed across the finish line by Mike Marlar, Devin Moran, Hudson O’Neal, and Dennis Erb Jr.

Joining the World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series on Thursday, Thornton trekked to 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) to pilot his Big River Steel No. 20RT Super Late Model for the Seymour Showdown.

With a fourth-place finish in his heat race pinning him on the eighth row for the $20,000-to-win feature, Ricky passed 14 cars in the 50-lap affair to register a second-place finish. He followed Cory Hedgecock across the line with Kyle Bronson rounding out the podium.

The team planned to compete in the two-day Alabama Gang 100 at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) on Friday and Saturday but ended up scratching after time trials on Friday due to rough track conditions.

As the Midwest Sheet Metal Point Leader, Ricky will lead the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) contingent into battle this weekend as the tour embarks on a three-race swing. Festivities open on Friday at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway, where a whopping $18,049 top prize is on the line. From there the historic Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway welcomes the tour for a $15,000-to-win race on Saturday, and the weekend draws to a close with a $10,000 winner’s share up for grabs on Sunday evening at Port Royal (Pal.) Speedway.
