DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 30) – Tenth starting Michael Long charged to the front of the JR Motosports Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature at Lee County Speedway Friday night, then dominated the last half of the race to earn a $1,000 IMCA Modified paycheck.

Long took the checkers a straightaway ahead of runner-up Tyler Cale in the headliner of Donnellson’s fourth annual Liberty Cup special, a qualifying event for the 2012 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.

While everyone in front of him ran the low line, Long went to the high side and caught early race leader Ronn Lauritzen and ninth starting Tyler Cale before midway of the 30-lapper. Their three-wide battle lasted the length of the backstretch but once in front, Long pulled away from the rest of the field.

Cale held on for second, while Wyatt Lantz took third. Josh Foster, who went to the pits after a lap one caution, came from 24th to fourth and Todd Hansen made a late charge to fifth.

Ryan Dolan maintained his spot on top of the point standings with an eighth place finish. Long became the fifth different winner in as many HDT events this season.

Shane Weller and Cayden Carter were $700 feature winners in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod features, respectively.

Weller ran in front most of the way in the Stock feature. Damon Murty took the lead at lap 15 but Weller regained the front spot with two laps to go.

Murty, Abe Huls, Matt Greiner and Justin Teymeyer rounded the top five.

Carter took the lead from Wisconsin visitor Brad Lautenbach on the 11th circuit and was never challenged as he pulled away for the SportMod win.

Lautenbach finished second, ahead of Carter VanDenBerg, Lucas Lundry and Rodger Dresden. The feature was slowed by a 10-car pile up in turn one of the first lap.
