West Plains, MO (July 1, 2011) – MARS Rookie of the Year contender, RC Whitwell of Tucson, AZ picked up his first ever MARS DIRTcar Series win at West Plains Motor Speedway Friday night.  Whitwell picked up $2,500 for his efforts in a race co-sanctioned with the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series.

Whitwell started on the front row for the twenty five lap feature and to the outside of Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR.  Wallace took the lead on the start and looked to have the race under control, but Whitwell worked the slick surface of the West Plains Motor Speedway to perfection and reeled Wallace in, making the pass on lap fifteen and never looked back.

Wallace would have to settle for second place, while Terry Phillips of Springfield, MO; Stacy Taylor of Jacksonville, AR; and Johnny Virden of Russellville, AR rounded out the top five.

This race was night one of a three race “Firecracker Shootout” between the MARS DIRTcar Series and the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series.  Night two, Saturday July 2nd will also be a West Plains Motor Speedway and the finale on Sunday July 3rd at the Monett Speedway in Monett, MO.
