Waycross, GA (February 15, 2011) -Scott Bloomquist claimed his first ever DART Winternationals Points Championship last week at East Bay Raceway competing in all six feature events for the week. Bloomquist would start the week out fast with a win on opening night, a 2nd place on the second feature and a 3rd place finish on the third night. He would end up with one win, three top 5 finishes and four top 10 finishes out of the six feature events and a last lap past on the final night would be just enough points for the week to win the week long points standings and the $5,000 top prize from DART.
The 35th DART Winternationals presented by Magnaflow Exhaust averaged 60 plus cars each night with six different winners and six different fast time winners. Bloomquist, Tyler Reddick, Billy Moyer, Brad Neat, Jimmy Owens and Tim McCreadie all claimed wins during the week. Brad Neat, Dan Schlieper, Billy Moyer, Mike Marlar, Austin Hubbard and Jason Feger all earned Red Buck fast time awards for the week.
Drivers earned points all week towards the DART Winternationals points fund and the top ten in the week long point’s standings received numerous product awards with the winner receiving $5,000 cash from DART Machinery. With a tight points battle between Scott Bloomquist and Don O’Neal heading into the final feature for the week, the week long points battle would come down to the final lap of the 75-lap feature. With O’Neal running a solid 3rd place, Bloomquist was battling with drivers mid pack for most of the race. Unknowing to where O’Neal was running Bloomquist continued to advance positions late in the race and passed Eddie Carrier Jr. on the final lap to finish in the 11th place. That last lap pass would be the difference in winning the DART Points as Bloomquist would beat O’Neal by a mere 5 points for the week with 1225 points to O’Neal’s 1220.
The top ten final DART point’s standings for the week were Scott Bloomquist, Don O’Neal, Jimmy Owens, Mike Marlar, Eddie Carrier Jr., Austin Hubbard, Ray Cook, David Breazeale, Dennis Erb and Eric Jacobsen.
Jimmy Owens also claimed the special week long Outerwears Challenge and won a $500 cash award from Outerwears. The unique contest was awarded to the driver that completed the most laps and was using all three specific Outerwears products including the air filter pre filter, radiator pre filter and the shock covers. Outerwears will continue this special contest for the entire year with the winner of the Outerwears Challenge winning a $1500 cash award at the end of the year. To be eligible for this special award drivers must be using all three Outerwear Products as mentioned above.
“Were very thankful to have DART sponsor the Winternationals for the fourth year in a row. Both DART and Magnaflow also stepped up and added two additional starting positions to each nights feature event that gave more racers an opportunity to earn more money and a chance to compete for a coveted winternationals feature win”, stated Ritchie Lewis.
