Springfield Raceway Ready For Exciting Larry Phillips Memorial Sat Night Presented By HomePro As LM’s Battle

MARS DIRTcar SeriesSpringfield,Mo.-The much awaited Larry Phillips Memorial presented by Joplin’s HomePro is set to help decided some Latemodel Touring Series as the 2011 MARS Champion will be crowned Sat night at the Quick-Quarter while the MLRA has a new point leader in Omaha’s John Anderson after his win last weekend in Nebraska as he overtakes Al Purkey.

Both series are coming over strong weekends of racing last week and are heading towards the homestretch in the Feature at the Quick-Quarter of the Springfield Raceway.

The MARS Series will crown a new first-time champion as Brad Looney of Republic holds the lead over Galena’s Jesse”The Undertaker”Stovall as neither driver has ever captured a Touring LateModel Series title while John Anderson of Omaha,Nebraska is heading up the MLRA Series points while Al”The Shark”Purkey is right in the hunt.

“It is only fitting that a LateModel Championship will be decided Sat night as HomePro of Joplin has a rich tradition of champions as Owner John Tullis father was 4 state track champion “Fast” Freddie Tullis.Freddie Tullis was an area SuperModified and Latemodel Champion from the 60’s and 70’s and competed several times again Larry Phillips at the Old Fairgrounds Speedway on the 1/2 dirt.

Expected top drivers include Brad Looney of Republic,John Anderson of Omaha,Nebraska,Jesse Stovall,Al Purkey of Coffeyville,Kansas who dominated the John Knutz Memorial held at the track back in May, Springfield’s Terry Phillips who is coming off a Huge win last weekend in Minnesota in the Modifieds,defending event winner Jeremy Payne,Rookie RC Whitwell of Arizona,David Turner of Creighton,Missouri,Alan Vaughn of Belton, Former Nascar National Champion Joe Kosiski of Omaha,Tony Jackson Jr of Lebanon,Defending Turkey Classic winner Justin Wells of Aurora,former Tukey classic winner and Dirt Hall of Famer Ken Essary of Cape Fair,Shane Essary of Aurora and many others from the 4-State Area.This event is a WRS D55 or LM 40 Tire Event and also awards UMP National LateModel points.

In Addition the fans will be treated to the USRA A-Modifieds as this will pay $500 to win and $100 to start along with awarding USRA National points,B-Modifieds,Legends,Midwest Modz and area PureStocks(Bring your tracks rules to be teched against).Drivers in A-Mods,B-Mods,Legends, and Midwest Modz need to have raceceivers along with full drivers suits and gloves.

Grandtand gates will open at 4PM with Hotlaps scheduled to start at 5PM and Racing at 6PM.

Grandstand General Admission for this first of Final 4 specials is only $20 for Adults while kids prices are 6-12 only $5 and under 6 Free.

Pitgates will open at 3PM with local drivers meeting at 4:45PM.Cutoff for draw for passing points is 5:30.Pitpasses are $35 for this event.
