NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model SeriesFulton, MS (05/29/12) – Eric Cooley piloted his #33b Bryson Motorsports/Barry Wright Crate Late Model to the apparent $2,000 feature win with the NeSmith Late Model Series on Sunday evening at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi). However, in post-race, technical inspection he was notified by NeSmith Late Model Series officials that he had been disqualified due to his tire testing positive for an unapproved chemical presence.

“I was thoroughly shocked when the NeSmith guys told me that I was being disqualified due to my tire testing illegally on their sniffer. We did not use any tire prep substances or illegal preparation on the tire, so it caught us off guard. When I asked to see the results of the test, the NeSmith officials denied me access to any results, and just told me that my left rear tire was out of tolerance. The series’ officials also attempted to confiscate my tire, but I refused. Our team is sending the tire to an independent lab to be tested and analyzed. Once we have these results, we will evaluate how we will handle this situation moving forward. It just upsets me that I’ve been labeled a cheater, when I’ve done nothing wrong. We will get to the bottom of this,” noted Cooley.

On Friday night Eric recorded a sixth place finish with the NeSmith Late Model Series tour at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park (Hattiesburg, Mississippi), and on Saturday evening he finished third at Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Mississippi). He also competed with the Southern All Star Super Late Model tour on Saturday and Sunday evenings at the facilities with sixteenth and ninth place finishes, respectively.
