(Moberly, Mo) – Just seven points-earning races remain for the Lucas Cattle Company ULMA late models this season after drivers clicked off two more events Labor Day weekend at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri on Friday and Randolph County Raceway (RCR) in Moberly, Missouri on Sunday.

In what has become a familiar site this year, the two drivers at the top of the current standings both added to their already impressive win totals. A few weeks ago, current leader Jason Russell broke the single-season wins record previously held by 2010 ULMA Champion Vance Wilson. Russell now holds the record for most wins in a season with 14 after taking the win at Callaway Raceway while Wilson has accumulated 12 wins with his latest victory at RCR, also breaking his own former record in the process.

At Callaway Raceway, Jason Russell earned the pole position through preliminary heat race action with Earl Roark starting to his outside. Russell quickly set sail for the 20-lap distance with third-starting Vance Wilson giving chase along with Roark. Wilson was unable to mount a serious challenge by race end and ultimately finished in the runner-up position behind Russell at the line.

Justin Russell turned in a memorable performance by forming a Russell sandwich behind his older Brother Jason and Vance Wilson in second to take third from ninth on the grid. Hallsville, Missouri’s Jon Melloway advanced one position on the field to take fourth with eighth-starting Cliff Powell earned the final spot in the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Zeke Langley, who advanced four spots to claim sixth, with Chris Cox, Todd McCoin, Payton Looney and Roark rounding out the top ten.

Racing resumes at Callaway Raceway again this Friday, September 6. For more information contact track owner and race promoter Betty Atterberry at (573) 220-1751 or call track line at (573) 592-7795.

Drivers headed north to the revamped and re-energized Randolph County Raceway for a rare Sunday night appearance as part of the packed grandstands weekend. ULMA was proud to be on the racing bill headlined by the ASCS Warrior Region 360 Sprint Cars. A total of 16 cars competed in a pair of preliminary heat races to determine the main event lineup with Browning, Missouri’s Tommy Cordray and two-time RCR feature winner Kenny Mudd earning front row starting positions for the ULMA main event.

Mudd controlled the race from the onset from the outside of row one with Cordray and third-starting Vance Wilson in tow. Walt Imhoff started the race in fourth and raced just outside the top three along with Jon Melloway and Chris Lapp in the early stages of the race. Meanwhile up front, Mudd commanded the race like a four-star general in battle with Wilson and Cordray trying to figure out the right racing lane to gain ground.

Late in the race, Imhoff’s hopes of a solid finish went up in smoke as his slowing car drew a caution on the field. With Mudd still leading the way when the field went back to racing, Wilson was in the right position to score yet another RCR win as he pulled off a last-lap pass to claim victory. Mudd settled for the runner-up position after dominating all but the last lap while Cordray finished third.

On back through the field, fifth-starting Jon Melloway was fourth followed by Larry Winn, Chris Lapp, Cliff Powell, Steve Dieckmann, late model new comer Chase Breid and Ryan Petersheim. RCR returns to its normal Saturday night racing this weekend. Visit www.randolphcountyraceway.com or call 660-833-1727 for details.

ULMA action returns to Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri on Saturday, September 14 and again on Saturday, September 21. Visit www.lucasoilspeedway for a detailed look at the track’s remaining schedule of events or call 417-282-5984 for additional details.
