UNION, KY (April 7, 2012) – Competing in his first race of the season Eddie Carrier Jr. of Salt Rock, WV took the lead after a lap 18 restart and then dominated the remaining laps to win the special $3,000 to win event on Saturday Night at Florence Speedway.

Carrier, who has been sidelined since surgery to repair a ruptured achilles tendon in early February drove from his 18th starting position to earn his second career win at the famed half-mile track. The race had four different leaders, but once Carrier took the lead on lap 19 he went unchallenged the rest of the way building nearly a straightaway lead over second place finisher, Rod Conley of Wheelersburg, OH.

Defending Florence track champion, Josh Williams of west Harrison, IN led the first four circuits until veteran Mike Jewell took the lead. Jewell’s spot at the top was short-lived as Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, IN took over the race lead on lap seven.

Jameson would hold the point over Conley and Carrier until the only caution of the race came out with 18 laps complete for debris on the racing surface. On the Delaware double-file restart Carrier was on the outside of Conley and quickly moved by him and was able to do the same to Jameson on lap 19.

Jameson would wind up third followed by Cody Mahoney of Madison, IN and Williams.

Completing the top ten were Jerry Rice of Verona, KY, who started 22nd, Scott James of Lawrenceburg, IN; Josh McGuire of Grayson, KY; Roy Hensley of Walton, KY; and Brandon Green of Walton, KY.

Carrier’s Carl Grover Motorsports owned Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Engines, Inc, VP Racing Fuels, Ohlins, Hess, Stewart and Campbell and Blue Ridge Machinery and Tools. The car is powered by a Grover Racing Engine.

Official Florence Finish: Eddie Carrier Jr., Rod Conley, Jason Jameson, Cody Mahoney, Josh Williams, Jerry Rice, Scott James, Josh McGuire, Robby Hensley, Brandon Green, Mike Jewell, Justin Rattliff, Duane Chamberlain, David Spille, Tim Prince, Jarrod Breeding, Mike Meyers, Rob Starkey, Jesse Lay, Tom Sheets, John Gill, Barry Doss, Jeff Simonton, Greg Johnson
