Chattanooga/Ringgold (3/4/11) – The FLYIN’ WELSHAN Jason Welshan (# 29) from Maryville, Tennessee topped the season opener at Boyd’s Speedway Friday night on the TN/GA boarder. The $800. payday came for Welshan after an intense battle with 2010 Crate LM champion Craig Burrows of Chickamagua, GA, whom led early in the 20-lap “A” Main feature. Welshan was able to get under Burrows for the winning pass and drive away from the competition for his first win of 2011. Welshan opened up the season with a 3rd place run at the BAMA BASH last Sunday in Alabama, in this Limited LM car and had over-heating problems in the Crate LM feature. Welshan, 31 contends primarily around East Tennessee in his unmarked yellow # 29 “ALOT LESS Factory Outlet, Jon’s Golfcarts, Advantage Check Cashing, Ronald Sexton Construction Co, Smith’s Auto Sales and Centerline Construction” sponsored WEEKS chassised / GM Performance 604. When possible Welshan doubles-up competing in more than one LM division per event, like at last weekends event at GVS.

“Through (turns) 1 & 2 I didn’t have any front grip” stated Welshan from his shop on Saturday afternoon. “I could hear the #23, driving deeper and deeper in the corner, so about halfway thru the race, I decided to go for it and I got a good enough run underneath him. I’d have to back-off and drop the throttle every lap in order to not hit him. I rather race competitive like that, even if I don’t win, Craig and I agreed after the race, that was a fun race.” Welshan’s dad helps out alot at the shop, along with owners Tim & Angie Kile. Even the Lil’ Welshan helps out (Emily 10yrs old) on the stopwatch. “I couldn’t do this without plus Doug and DJ nor my sweetheart Allison. Behind   Welshan and Burrows Friday night were pole-sitter Kayne Hickman, Jerry Coffman and Mack McCarter respectfully. Tim Kile drove the teams second racecar in the LM class, but finished towards the rear of the field. For more information on Flyin’ Team-Welshan look him up on his facebook page. Plans for next weekend include the 2011 S.A.S opening weekend at Boyd’s Friday and Cleveland on Saturday.
